The Generation-1 Onboardfueling.com System shown with optional ladder
The addition of appropriate amounts of hydrogen into the primary fuel charge improves the ignitability of the mixture, and increases flame speed and combustion stability. Results include more complete combustion, offering improved fuel economy and fewer emissions.
The
Onboardfueling.com Hydrogen Generating System gets it's energy
required
for electrolysis from the standard electrical charging circuit, but
since it only take 1.2 volts at 77 degrees to split water, the power
draw is minuscule. In the economy Onboardfueling, system the resulting
hydrogen and oxygen is delivered pre-turbo to the intake
manifold. It requires a simple high amp alternator upgrade
included in
the price. Strangely enough, our competitors have not published
how
much Hydrogen gas their unit(s) produce - when it is required by
Federal Law. Perhaps that is because our competitors are foreign
companies not located in the United States and subject to U.S
law.
That is because the design and operating suggestions of the
competitor's units illustrate an incomplete understanding of the
Hydrogen Generation, Generator and Engine operation issues. They
just
know it works "somehow".
An electronic
pressure switch keeps the gas pressure constant, to
maintain
a constant flow of hydrogen and oxygen produced from ordinary
water. Unlike the competitors, the Onboardfueling system uses
regular water - and filters the resultant precipitants, not Distilled
water which is actually then a "fuel cost" because you have to buy it
also like fuel.
The HGS operates only when the engine is running and produces hydrogen and oxygen on demand. Gases are never stored in any tank.
Onboardfueling.com has seen run a variety of tests with the following results:
1996 Mercedes Benz bus in Chile demonstrated a 50% reduction in emissions;
Volkswagen TDI testing by California Environmental Engineering
showed reductions in particulate matter from 57.3% to 70.0%, reduction
in fuel consumption by 15% and reduction in oxides of Nitrogen - a.k.a
- NOx levels by 24% to 36%;
Cummins NTC-400 tests by California Environmental Engineering
showed lower amounts of exhaust emissions and measurable reductions in
fuel consumption and exhaust temperatures. Particulate matter was
reduced by 11% and carbon monoxide was reduced by 74.5%; oxides of
nitrogen were reduced by 11; in fact Eldorado Bus company in Riverside
makes a Low-E CNG bus that uses a Cummins Diesel engine that uses
this same bi-fueling technology to power a Diesel engine completely on
CNG and uses the Diesel fuel as only a "liquid spark plug"
Tests in Alberta showed improvements of fuel economy improved from 3.6% to 14.6% during horsepower analysis tests on the chassis dynamometer conducted at the Cummins Alberta facility. Steady-state dynamometer fuel economy increased by 5.6%. Average of all the road data showed an increase in the fuel economy of 5.5% over 12,800 km and 176 hours of HGS operation;
Leeds Transit of Elgin, Ontario has installed HGS units on its buses and has experienced emissions reductions and fuel savings from 16% to 20%.
Onboardfueling.com
uses patented and patent pending technology
licensed directly from the inventor which allows the company to provide
a better product at a lower cost because their engineer is one that
developed the new electrolyzer. Trust it to be true when it is
said - the secret is in the electrolyzer.
HGS applications include trucks and buses as well as stationary generators. The economy version for a commercial truck unit sells for only $4,995.00 where the same type of unit from Hy-Drive is C$11,600 and it makes LESS gas than does the Onboardfueling unit all other things equal, and with current fuel prices, Onboardfueling.com calculates a payback period of less than a few tank fulls of fuel.
HGS systems are
currently being tested by 50 fleets in Canada and
the US, representing 7,600 trucks.
An HECE test engine
The premise of HECE, on which the research collaborative has been working for a number of years, is that the addition of a small amount of hydrogen to the cylinder charge can allow homogeneous charge ultra-lean-burn combustion engines to operate much leaner than otherwise possible.
That in itself is not a new discovery. The ArvinMeritor/MIT unit has an on-board, compact plasma reformer that can take a fraction of the conventional fuel, reform it in real-time and add the resulting hydrogen-rich gas to the remaining fuel-air mixture flowing into the engine.
In
the plasma fuel reformer, air is metered into a plasma generator
located upstream of a combustor. High voltage is applied to the air
stream, forming high-temperature plasma. This high-temperature plasma
torch flows into the combustor, initiating vigorous combustion of a
rich fuel-air mixture. Within the plasma fuel reformer, partial
oxidation reactions occur in the high-temperature gas phase created by
the plasma, eliminating the need for a reforming catalyst.
This
is esoteric stuff - but what it does is replace the catalytic
converter with the plasma reformer and then scavenges the Hydrogen from
the left over Hydro-Carbons and then burns then too !!

The shift of combustion limits with hydrogen-enhanced combustion.
Adding hydrogen gas to the homogeneous fuel charge improves the ignitability of the mixture, and increases flame speed and combustion stability. In theory, the combination of a lean-burn engine with the plasma reformer could support an ultra-lean and turbocharged engine that would reduce NOx emissions to the point of not requiring aftertreatment in the exhaust stream.
Researchers at the Sloan Automotive Laboratory at MIT also discovered that both hydrogen and carbon monoxide (both products of the partial oxidation process of the reformer) act as octane enhancers. Adding the reformed fuel gas to the engine thus also supports a substantial increase in compression ratio.
Once an engine is developed that operates ultra-lean, is turbocharged—or super-charged—and is better able to withstand engine knock, engine downsizing while maintaining performance becomes a credible option that can lead to significant additional fuel economy and performance benefits.
Such an ultra-lean-burn, high compression-ratio, turbocharged HECE could exhibit the following characteristics:
Extremely low engine out NOx emissions requiring little or no exhaust emissions control
Reduced pumping losses (~5-10% efficiency gain)
Improved thermodynamics (~10-12% efficiency gain)
Reduced friction (downsizing) (~5-8% efficiency gain)
ArvinMeritor
is targeting release of the HECE for approximately 2008.
<<== What the competition
shows as customer claims with a LOWER gas producing, HIGHER PRICED UNIT
So, . . . Well for right
now . . .
Hundreds of semitrailer trucks zipping along North American highways are now powered in part by hydrogen. These 18-wheelers make hydrogen as they go, eliminating the need for high-pressure, cryogenic storage tanks or hydrogen filling stations, which, by the way, don't yet exist.
These truckers aren't just do-gooders. They like a Hydrogen Bi-fueling system because it lets them save fuel, get more horsepower and, as a bonus, cause less pollution.
"We're saving $700 a month per truck on fuel," said Sherwin Fast,
president of Great Plains Trucking
in Salina, Kansas. The company tried the Hydrogen system on four trucks
and ordered 25 more. Then they discovered the flaw in our
competitor's units - and as of 2/4/07 has reported that they are taking
them off. We suspect these Canadian units get low on water, get
hot from electrolysis and then boil it to make "steam" rather than
produce Hydrogen. We have actually seen these units and cannot
see how they won't do that. Specifying to use distilled water is
a tip-off. Somebody there in Canada doesn't understand
electrolysis. We solved that problem and in fact knew of it from
the start, and designed our product to avoid that scneario.
However;
before that "Drivers like(d) the increased power and noticed there is a
lot less black
smoke coming out of the stacks," said Fast.
Water
has long been known to make a diesel run cleaner. A water
emulsion product called PuriNox has been certified by the EPA as an
emissions reducing fuel additive; but also Lubrizol - the maker of
PuriNox admits there will be a loss in power. With Hydrogen made
on the fly and boosting the fuel by bi-fueling - you get an increase in
power and - if the Hydrogen Generator is properly designed; you get it
with almost no extra popwer consumption at the alternator.
An
on the fly Hydrogen Bi-fueling system is a bolt-on, after market
part that provides appropriate amounts of
hydrogen into the engine air intake. Efficiency and horsepower
are improved because
hydrogen burns over a larger stoichiometric range causing diesel fuel
to
burn more completely because you use a lot less, dramatically boosting
combustion efficiency.
You get more work from the same amount of fuel, because you are
actually making you own fuel for immediate use as you drive
This is not a new idea. The Jet
Propulsion Laboratory
at the California Institute of Technology published research on the
uses of hydrogen as a combustion-enhancing agent in the early 1970s.
But the ability to make hydrogen on the go is just now catching on
The
sticking point for hydrogen has always been getting it. Unlike
crude oil, natural gas, wind or solar energy, hydrogen doesn't exist
freely in nature. Some estimates claim it costs $5 a gallon to make
hydrogen from natural
gas. Yeah - well poppy-cock to that and while it might be true -
why not just make it from water.
But the Onboardfueling.com system uses electricity from an engine's alternator to power the electrolysis of water to produce hydrogen as needed from small amounts of distilled water.
"That's a big advantage and a bit of a novelty," said Venki Raman, an expert on hydrogen-energy applications who started Protium Energy Technologies.
Onboardfueling.com
as a manufacturer guarantees 20 percent fuel
savings in the their economy model, and can fully power the engine in
the high end model, which likely
won't interest car companies or consumers because of the cost
associated with a retro-fit or modifying an assembly line - but when
you tank up with 600 gallons of Diesel at $3.00 per gallon and get only
5 to 7 miles per gallon - 20 percent is HUGE.
Trucks with the Onboardfueling, com type system produce half the amount of particulates -- microscopic, unburned bits of diesel. These kinds of systems also reduces nitrogen-oxide emissions, which are major contributors to harmful air pollution, by up to 14 percent, according to Canada's Environmental Technology Verification Program.
The Onboardfueling.com units are relatively small and cost between
$4,000 and $14,000, depending on the size of the vehicle and type of
system you want.
We
remember the day Arnold Schwarzegger, a then budding candidate
for governor announced "I'm going to covert my Hummer to Hydrogen" -
can anyone produce an email a few days before the announcement?
Hmmmm - a few days before? The money saved by using Hydrogen
bi-fueling systems could buy
many Onboardfueling.com systems, which would provide "300 times" the
air-pollution
reductions of one fuel-cell vehicle, and cost consumers far less to
implement.
This
is a fueling
system and is leased
- it cannot by law be sold because of road tax evasion issues.
The are also IFTA issues.
AFTER
filling out the three steps on http://www.onboardfueling.ws,
then come back here and;
First
read about the technology here at
http://www.onboardfueling.com/truck_product.html
Second
- remember this is the special
"non-injected" version which is only about 50 candlestick [a single
candlestick makes about .5 (five tenths) of a cubic inch of gas per
minute] so this makes a good bit of gas 25 cubic inches of gas per
minute (GEE . . . our competitor won't say how much gas their
units make - and we know why . . . but later for that)
Third
it is a manual unit completely
Fourth
the GAS generator is automatic
and sealed and takes REGULAR TAP WATER - why - more on that

so we can have an email way to contact you for updates and reports from
you. We will not accept any other email system. It costs
$10 per month, and is a part of the GS program and is mandatory.

The
GOOD NEWS is for every referral -
we pay 10 percent of the sale in commissions paid directly to you, plus
you get a residual also on the .WS sign ups that are also required, AND
YOU - the owner - MUST SIGN THE LICENSE TO USE THE UNIT.
AGAIN
- in case you do not "get" this reason
it is LICENSED and not sold - is because this is a fueling device, and
IF AND WHEN various governments regulate the use of items like this as
the "Portable Gas Stations" that they are, we will be required to
upgrade the units to incorporate Road Tax collection issues for the
Motor Fuel creation and use of the Motor Fuel for State and Federal
Governments and/or IFTA.
Bi-fueling
an engine is not unlawful, so
long as it does not INCREASE emissions; however, for a diesel that
bi-fueling ratio can be as much as 90/10 and thus Road Tax issues will
be substantially impacted; thus we - and nor do you - want to run afoul
of Road Tax laws and/or IFTA issues.
USE the link above to read about Bi-fueling a Diesel, then click the link at the bottom of that page which looks like this Contact us if you are serious about ONBOARDFUELING or use this one if you just want to move ahead - but don't ask us the same questions that the other page would have answered if you would have read it !!
You can
bi-fuel OR solely-fuel [meaning
switch completely to] with Propane
(easiest and cheapest
with a Bar-B-Que
grill tank and $20.00
regulator); OR Ethanol
(next easiest with a Walbro 392 electric fuel pump, adjustable GM
TPI regulator and secondary marine type fuel tank; OR Natural Gas (worst needing a
CNG tank set up, two regulators and electric lock-off system) OR Hydrogen (your choice of CNG
style system and tank for "tanked" Hydrogen or on-the-fly Hydrogen
Generating system needing also the same as the Ethanol option above
plus the Hydrogen Generating system - (there are other issues to solely fueling
with Hydrogen) The GM ECM will largely adjust for the bi-fueling
of the engine if you set flow rates and pressures right at the new
injectors to balance the injector duty cycle to the type of fuel you
are using and your emissions and greenhouse gas emissions will
decrease. Parties who want to license themselves get a
complimentary set of Hydrogen Generator fueling
system plans THAT WORK for driving our injectors in this system - when
you return a license which comes
